Participant Information Sheet

Thank you for your interest in our Prime Time for Middle Aged and Older Adults – A strength and fitness programme for adults over 50 years of age in Laois. Laois Sports Partnership assisted by our True Fitness team who devote their lives to transforming the lives of others and we are really looking forward to starting this programme online. The pre programme testing sessions will start 15th-20th March 2021. The 12-week training programme starts from the 22nd of March 2021. We are delighted to say this programme is brought to you by Laois Sports Partnership and is funded from the Government of Ireland’s Sláintecare Integration Fund under grant agreement number 21, so places on this course are completely FREE for participants!

What is the programme about?

This is a 12-week strength and fitness training intervention designed specifically for people aged 50-80 years in Laois. The intervention involves you taking part in two * 60-minute online group exercise sessions per week. The online exercise sessions will be delivered through Zoom and you will perform them in your own home. One week prior to the intervention we will send you written instructions for downloading and using zoom. We will also host a practice session with you and your group to ensure that you understand how Zoom works, the security features of Zoom to ensure privacy and confidentiality and can use Zoom appropriately for the training sessions. During each training session, you will perform a warm-up followed by a combination of strength, balance, flexibility, mobility and cardiovascular fitness exercises and finally a cool down. You do not need any equipment or much space to take part in these training sessions. All exercises will be performed at your own ability and desired level of intensity. All exercises will be modified to ensure that they take into consideration any injuries or clinical issues that you have. All exercises will be appropriate for your level of fitness. All training sessions will be delivered and monitored by trained professionals.

There will be one health workshop per week for all participants. All participants will be asked to give anonymous feedback on the workshops weekly via a short survey monkey questionnaire. These questionnaires literally take one minute to complete.

Pre and post tests

If you are interested in taking part in this programme you must complete some tests at home before and after the 12-week programme. We will be testing your fitness, strength, balance and flexibility. These tests will be completed online and there will be trained professionals monitoring you. Please do not worry as we will explain everything you need to know about each test. The reason we do these tests is so that we can see what changes occur after the intervention. You will be sent everything that you need to do the tests in advance. All participants must take part in this session before and after the programme.

We will also send you some questionnaires to complete before and after the intervention. You can complete these and send them to us via email or by post.

When will the programme take place?

The pre programme testing sessions will start 15th-20th March 2021. The 12-week training programme starts from the 22nd of March 2021. 

The intervention involves you taking part in two * 60-minute online group exercise sessions per week. The session times available for Prime Time are:

Monday: 6pm
Tuesday: 1pm, 7pm
Wednesday: 6pm
Thursday: 1pm, 7pm
Friday: 7pm

When you express interest in the programme, we will ask you to let us know what session times suit you best via an online poll. We will send this link to you.  

The live health education workshops will take place every Monday from 7-7:20pm. If you can’t attend the live workshop, we will send a voice recording of the presentation to you.

How do I sign up for the programme?

1. Download the editable screening form which is at the end of this page.

2. Send your completed screening form to Ruth via email ruthtruefitness@gmail.com. If you have any difficulty with this please email Ruth and she will help you. 

Ruth will reply to your email to confirm that she has received your screening form. Our team will review your screening form and you will receive an email to confirm your eligibility for the programme. You must return your completed screening form by Friday 12th March 2021.

There are limited places available, so if you would like to join us on this course please book in with us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment! Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Please note if you completed our Prime Time programme last year you will not be eligible to take part in this programme.
