Our Mid Year Report for the first six months of 2021 covers some very contrasting periods as Ireland emerged from lockdown and activities restarted, in a socially distanced format.

As it had done last year, Laois Sports Partnership reached out to the local community through online activities and classes in the early months of 2021.

However, as restrictions eased, activities began to restart in outdoor settings as people were grateful to meet up and enjoy activities and exercise with much-missed friends.

From ‘Wellness Walks’ to activator poles, there was a palpable enthusiasm for activities and a return to group activities.

Highlights in the first six months included events in swimming, walking, cycling and basketball.

In addition to sporting events, Laois Sports Partnership ran a number of training courses online.

Our activities reached out to all age groups from those in primary school, right through to active retirement groups.

Our first group activity of the year was the return of activator poles classes at Portarlington Leisure Centre.

After that, events were delivered right across the county as people in Laois took to exercise outdoors as restrictions slowly lifted.
