Expressions of interest are being sought for an inclusive tag rugby team in Laois.
The programme was previously run in a very successful capacity in the past in Laois, before Covid-19 restrictions caused all group events to be shelved.
The event will either run in Portlaoise or Portarlington Rugby Clubs, depending on the level of interest. There may also be an opportunity to split the programme along ages for senior and junior teams if there are enough players interested and available.
There was great interest and take-up for disability rugby events previously held in Laois, and a similar level of interest is anticipated.
Similar programmes run by Leinster Rugby have proved very successful . This success was very much down to an emphasis of adapting sport to meet the needs and abilities of players in the group, to ensure rugby-specific coaching is delivered in an appropriate and safe manner
Such programmes aim to provide maximum enjoyment. They also aim to be all-inclusive while teaching skills and building new friendships.
A similar GAA event, the Rock for All GAA programme on Sunday mornings, hosted by The Rock GAA was a very successful event and shows the enthusiasm for such programmes.
Due to the success of previous events, is anticipated that there will be high levels of interest for the Rugby Inclusive event.
