Background

With support from Dormant Accounts, Sport Ireland has in recent years provided funding to local sports partnerships to establish community based sport and physical activity hubs in communities in every county in Ireland.

Sports hubs by their very nature seek to create opportunities for all in a community to participate in sport and physical activity regardless of age, background or ability.

In the past seven years, Laois Sports Partnership has secured dormant account funding to establish three Hubs; and anticipates funding in 2023 towards the establishment of a fourth Hub in Laois:-

  1. SVT Activity & Wellness hub – this Hub is an area based community sports Hub that supports delivery of sport and physical activity opportunities for people locally and the wider community.
  2. Rathdowney Errill Activity hub – this Hub is an area based community sports Hub supporting the delivery of sport and physical activity opportunities for people within Rathdowney/Errill and its surrounds.
  3. Mountrath Health & Fitness Academy (Bloom HQ) – this Hub is an area / site based community sports Hub supporting the delivery of sport and physical activity opportunities for people within Mountrath and its surrounds
