Laois Sports Partnership holds first AGM |

On the 29th January 2003 Laois Sports Partnership held its first Annual General Meeting at which progress over the last year was reviewed and committee positions agreed. The outgoing chairperson, Ms. Sharon Deering of P.C.A.P. (Portlaoise Community Action Project), thanked all the Directors who give time voluntarily to the Board and for their hard work done in getting the Sports Partnership up and running and said she looked forward to continued success in 2003.
Ms. Deering outlined some of the achievements to date which include;
a) A new office set up in Portlaoise and full representation on the Board from all sport and physical activity sectors in Laois
b) The development of a 3 year Strategic Plan, due for launch in March 2003
c) The allocation of €15,000 in grants to 35 local groups in September ’02 under the Sport and Physical Activity Grant Scheme.
d) 5 club development seminars and a walking workshop successfully run
An Annual Report outlining all of the individual partners activities and the Sport Partnerships’ finances shall be available in the coming weeks.
The following were elected to positions on the Board;
Chairperson - Mr. Martin Cashen (representing Garda Siochána). Martin was a former Offaly senior hurler and All Ireland winner and most recently trained the Laois Minor hurlers.
Vice Chairperson - Mr. Paul Culleton (representing the County Community Forum). Paul is also a member of Portlaoise AFC and qualified soccer coach.
Treasurer - Mr. Bernie Conroy (representing Sports Providers). Bernie is a well known sports physio in Laois and a former county senior footballer.
Secretary - Ms. Ciara Farrell (Laois County Development Board)
The Board of Laois Sports Partnership look forward to the coming year with anticipation and are confident that the programmes and services that they combine to provide will have a positive effect on the health and well being of the people of Laois.
