Trilogy Triathlon get in gear for 2006 Heritage Challenge Triathlon |
|
Trilogy Triathlon launched their 2006 Club kit on Saturday, and together with The Heritage Group, announced details of the 2006 Heritage Challenge Triathlon. The new club gear includes T-shirts, swim hats, accessories and a special “tri-suit”. The tri-suit, which the club sourced in the USA, is made of special quick-drying material and can be worn in the pool or sea, straight on to the bike, and right through the run. Karl McCann, PRO for the club explains that this will give Trilogy members an edge in competition: “Not having to change out of swim gear for the cycle, and then again change for the run shaves valuable minutes off a triathletes overall time – minutes can give you a few extra positions when it comes to the overall final results”. 16 members of the club, pictured here at The Heritage Hotel, got a chance to “tri out” their new gear in a training triathlon organised by the club on Saturday around Portlaoise. Starting with a 220m swim at The Heritage Health and Fitness Club, participants then cycled out to Meelick, across to Adams Garage, on to the Dublin road and back to The Heritage hotel – a distance of 13km. As the cyclists then ditched their bikes they undertook a 3km run past Kea-Lew business park, O’Moore Park and back down the Abbeyleix Road. Margot Joubert, who is this seasons leading lady triathlete in Laois, was very impressed with the new tri-suit, particularly with its adaptability “I was surprised at just how quick it dried out, and how comfortable it felt in all three sports – I am looking forward to trying it out in Waterford next week”. And as Margot plans her trip to Dunmore East next weekend for the Waterford triathlon, Trilogy is teaming up with The Heritage Health and Fitness Club to promote their third annual Heritage Challenge Triathlon, to be held this year on 19 August. Announcing the details for The Heritage Challenge Triathlon, John Bolton, manager of the health and fitness facilities at The Heritage, outlined the novel event – which begins in Portlaoise, and ends in Killenard. “The event involves a 550m swim in the pool at The Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise followed by a 19km cycle out to The Heritage Country Club at Killenard, where triathletes will then start a 4.5km run around the running trail that surrounds the 18-hole golf course”. Last years event, which attracted 50 participants from all over Laois, was a huge success for both The Heritage Group and for Trilogy. This year, Trilogy hope to involve even more people, and are offering training courses for anyone interested in getting involved. As Karl McCann explains “There are 7-8 good weeks training left until the Heritage Challenge Triathlon. As long as you can swim, cycle or run - even a short distance - we will be happy to help you with the rest. And if you don’t fancy it all yourself, why not form a relay team with two others?” See Trilogy’s website trilogy.blogs.ie for more details about the Heritqge Challenge Triathlon.
