Breaking down the barriers for Women in Sport. The need for investment in the target group of women was highlighted through recent research findings. In 2005, research into participation rates by the Economic Social Research Institute (ESRI) indicated that 25% of women participate in sport regularly compared to 41% of men, with lack of interest and time constraints being cited as the main reasons for low participation rates among women (Fahey, 2005). This conference intends to explore the key issues facing women who participate in sport and identify the barriers for women who do not participate in sport and/or physical activity . The conference will showcase some successful women both locally and nationally, in sport, and provide opportunities for delegates to explore their own barriers and hurdles within their sport. It will provide ideal seting for networking and brainstorming around these issues and hopefully assist us in working toghether to address some of these barriers in the future. Please contact Meath Local Sports Partnership 046-9067337 for further details. Workshop to be held on Saturday 4th November 2006 from 9.30am to 4pm in Marriott Johnstown House Hotel, Enfield. Closing date for receipt of registration forms is Friday 27th October.
