Final preparation is being made for the Irish Paralympics team’s descent on the Beijing Olympics. Forty five elite athletes across nine sports will represent Ireland at the Beijing Games which get underway on September 7th, and run up until September the 17th.  The first leg of the journey will commence on the 24th of August with the team departing for Beijing and arriving on the 25th. They will then attend a pre games training camp from the 26th of august to the 31st. RTE have committed to extensive coverage of the Irish team's participation at this year's Paralympic Games. Following on from the success of the Athens 2004 coverage, RTE have become a rights holder for this year's Games and will broadcast 6 programmes from Beijing during the Paralympic Games lead by presenter Shane O'Donoghue. The provisional dates and times of these programmes are:      Sat Sept 6th    19:30-20:00 Preview & Opening Ceremony     Mon Sept 8th    19:30-20:00     Wed Sept 10th   23:25-23:55      Fri Sept 12th   19:30-20:00     Sun Sept 14th   19:30-20:00     Wed Sept 17th   19:00-19:30 Review & Closing Ceremony In addition to the T.V. programmes, the Games will be covered extensively on RTE News programmes with Colm Murray reporting from Beijing, along with further coverage on RTE Radio with Adrian Eames and on RTE online. The Paralympic team is fully integrated into the Irish Sports Council's elite support systems. Over 4.28 million euro has been invested in Paralympic sport over this Paralympic cycle (2005 - 2008) through direct support to athletes under the International Carding Scheme, through core support and the performance planning programme which funds team training and competition, including a whole team preparatory familiarisation camp last year in Beijing.
