RUN OR WALK AND ENJOY BEING ACTIVE! E-mail
We are all aware of the benefits of exercise and participation in sport. The Midland Running League is a new all-inclusive event aimed at increasing participation in running, jogging and walking in the midlands, particularly in Westmeath. The League, consisting of a series of 3 mile road races combined with family fun runs and walks will take place in Mullingar on the Wednesdays during May. The event is being organised by Mullingar Harriers Athletic Club in association with the Westmeath Sports Partnership and is approved by the Athletics Association of Ireland. The organisers are aiming to promote the fun, enjoyment and participation elements of sport, and its importance in maintaining an active lifestyle. There will be a 3 mile fun run and walk on each Wednesday evening during May, commencing on May 3rd, followed by further events on May 10th, May 17th, May 24th and concluding on May 31st. Each run will commence at 8pm and will be preceded by a walk and a 1-mile fun run for children under 16 at 7.45pm. The 3 mile course for the event will follow a scenic route around Ladestown, just outside Mullingar close to Lough Ennell. The start and finish area are close to Butlers Bridge, just off the Mullingar-Tullamore road at Lynn Cross. Registration for the league will be at the Bloomfield House Hotel and Leisure Club on Wednesday May 3rd from 6.30pm. Entries will also be taken there on any of the subsequent evenings. The entry fee is €15, which covers the five evenings and each participant will receive a souvenir t-shirt. There will also be category prizes and plenty of spot prizes Participants can take part in some or all of the events. There will be refreshments followed by presentation of prizes in Bloomfield House Hotel after the final event on May 31st. The Midland Running League hopes to cater for runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities. A fun event with the emphasis on participation rather than competition we encourage as many as possible – men and women, boys and girls to take part. It is ideal preparation for ladies who are taking part in the forthcoming women’s mini-marathon and indeed a great way for the entire family to enjoy an active evening!
