Grants for Physical Activity and Sport E-mail
Age & Opportunity has announced advance notice of another Go for Life National Grant Scheme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People. Again this year over EUR300,000 will be made available to local groups to enable them to get their older members more involved in sport and physical activity. Application forms will be available in mid September and the deadline for their return will be toward the end of October. Full details will be advertised in national press in September. Go for Life is the national programme for sport and physical activity for older people. It is an Age & Opportunity initiative funded by the Irish Sports Council. “The scheme reaches out to towns and villages all over Ireland and is having a real and positive impact on the lives of older people by helping them to become more active more often.” John O’Donoghue, TD, Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism (Dec 2004) Last year almost 600 groups nationwide shared in excess of €300,000 under the fourth phase of the scheme. As in other years, successful applicants included active retirement associations, senior citizens clubs, ICA guilds, sports clubs, day centres and community centres. The grant aid was used to buy sports equipment, to fund sport and activity programmes and to contribute to the cost of organising local sports fests. Every county in Ireland from Cork to Donegal, Wexford to Galway, was represented amongst the groups receiving grants. Application forms will be available on the Age & Opportunity web site from mid September 2005: www.olderinireland.ie or by contacting Go for Life: Go for Life c/o Age & Opportunity Marino Institute of Education Griffith Avenue Dublin 9 Tel: 01 805 7733 Fax: 01 853 5117 email : This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
