“Good Coaching makes a difference” NCTC SUMMER SCHOOL Long-Term Player/Athlete Development (LTPAD) forms the backbone of how we work with children, players and athletes. This year, the NCTC Summer School will address four key elements of LTPAD. Four one-day seminars are planned, led by Dr Istvan Balyi, NCTC International Advisor. The seminars will deal with the overall LTPAD model and will also focus on its application to children and adolescents. The final seminar will deal with tapering and peaking for team and individual sports. Dates (10am – 4pm each day) July 8: LTPAD: What are the implications for the coaches of individual and team sports? July 9: Coaching Children: Getting the FUNdamental and Learn to Train phases right July 10: Coaching adolescents: Train to Train and developing fitness programmes based on the developmental stage of the athlete July 11: Tapering and peaking in team and individual sports Venue - Kilmurry Hall, University of Limerick Cost The cost of each workshop is €80 per day; or, €150 for 2 days; €215 for 3 days; €280 for 4 days. Bookings Bookings will only be accepted when full fee is included. Places are limited so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Dr. Istvan Balyi is one of the world’s leading experts on planning, periodisation and short and long-term training and performance programming. He is playing a key role in advising the NCTC’s Technical Advisory Group on the development of the Irish Long-Term Player/Athlete Development (LTPAD) model. http://www.nctc.ul.ie/latest_news/2003_09_20.htm He was on faculty for eight years at the School of Human Kinetics of the University of Ottawa, Canada. He has worked as a high performance consultant with several Canadian national teams, including athletics (middle and long distance), alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, soccer (men), water polo (men and women), triathlon and water skiing. At present he is a high performance consultant with the National Training Centres Vancouver and Victoria. Istvan is also a high performance and long-term athlete development advisor for sports in the UK. Practical applications will be explored as part of these workshops.
